Squirrel outside our bedroom window this morning. |
I guess I don't know if there is really a season for tornados, but if there is, it has begun in Iowa.
Late last night, there were many tornados, high winds and hail all around us. Tornado sirens were going off at the lake close to midnight. Just before the sirens started, we could hear the wind outside. A moment later, we heard the chair and table at the top of our landing outside the sunroom start tumbling down the stairs. (These are metal pieces that have never moved in the 12 years we have owned them.) The table landed at the bottom of the stairs but the chair turned left at the bottom and then blew about another 20 feet away from the house.
We also have a storage box on our patio downstairs. It's quite heavy and protected by the house and by the landscaping blocks. The wind picked it up, lifted it a few feet in order to clear the landcaping and then threw it into our neighbor's yard, breaking off the top and scattering the contents everywhere.
Our neighbor's boat moved about 10 feet.
Our other neighbor's heavy sliding patio door blew open and the wind knocked some things down inside of their home.
After reading the news of the tornados that touched down throughout Iowa last night, I am very grateful that we did not have any serious damage in our area.
Squirrel's friend joined him a moment later. |
Thanks for visting!

I just heard on the news about the tornadoes in Iowa. Thank goodness you did not have much damage. Does your little dog sense when severe weather is approaching? Take care- Yvonne
There most definitely IS a tornado season, and ours has started around here too. We haven't had one yet, but there are watches out for tonight, and we had nasty thunder storms roll through all night.
Oh - - - and the mighty Wisconsin is flooding from melt off and rain!
Heard about the tornadoes there, and I posted about it! Glad you didn't get the worst of it. We are bracing for severe storms tonight here in Louisiana. Take care. Luv-Loretta
I am thankful that you and your family were spared! Looking outside here there's a storm coming. Now I love thunder storms... but only when there's no damage that comes with them!
Be always safe,
Janet
I haven't been here for a few days so scrolled down to this post about the tornados. That is so scary and it must have been quite a wind to do even that much damage! I'm glad it wasn't worse. We may get a lot of snow storms here in the Maritimes but I'm thankful we don't have tornados or hurricanes! Take care.
Blessings, Pamela
